Alpha Testing Is Ready!
I am proud to announce that we are ready to begin alpha testing of the core game systems for Bunker Radio. Keep in mind that several key features of the game are yet to be implemented, so expect updates on those real soon as we roll out new content to add to the game.
The game rules, ready for testing. |
Alpha testing is set to begin as soon as possible, mostly using DMR over IP, and with several close friends at a physical table. If you are in the NE Ohio area and would be interested in trying to make a 2m/440 QSO to help me test, please reach out via email, which can be found on my QRZ page.
Systems needed to be tested in the alpha stage are as follows:
- Combat
- Character creation
- Skill checks
- Health stats
- Bunker Radio nets
- Encounter building
As mentioned, portions of the game have not yet been built or otherwise implemented, and so development on that will continue until launch. Depending on the development of the coronavirus pandemic and general community interest and input, we may be able to get all testing done for an official launch by 2021. Again though, 2021 is very tentative, and likely will change.
Here are some of the things that are yet to be implemented:
- Techniques and skill features (i.e. ways you can specialize your skills, I know this is ambiguous, it will become clear when you read the basic rules in Beta)
- Roll Tables
- Random Encounters
- Combat
- Passing NPC's
- Hazards
- etc.
- Loot tables
- Forageable plants
- Recipes
- Building compounds/bunkers
- Followers and allies
- Campaign setting
And more.
At this point, I've stripped out some of the more advanced functions that I plan to roll out in the future with continued interest from the radio community in an effort to get a product that can be played and tested as soon as possible. Trust me when I say the best is yet to come, and the parts of the game that will truly make this a unique experience unlike anything you've ever done before will be genuinely amazing.
Thanks everyone for your continued interest in the project!
On a more personal note, I'm currently working on getting myself a DMR radio and hotspot up and running to begin testing. If you don't have access to the DMR network and would like to get involved, I'm open to the possibility of using something like Discord, just for testing purposes. Remember the point is to use ham radio MORE, so that is preferable.
Until next time,
