Songs for the Apocalypse
Get in the mood for the end of the world with a selection of apocalyptic music.
TV Shows
See how your favorite stars fared at the end of days from some of the best portrayals of the apocalypse ever to grace the screen.
- The Walking Dead
- The definitive zombie apocalypse TV show, adapted from an excellent series of graphic novels. Both are worth consuming.
- Westworld
- A futuristic fantasy park with android hosts goes awry when the hosts break from their programming.
- Battlestar Galactica
- Set in a far off space setting, an advanced race of sentient robots seek to annihilate the human survivors fleeing a destroyed society. But who are the real villains?
- The Last of Us
- Based on a masterwork video game of the same name, this TV show is another brilliant vision of the zombie apocalypse.
- The Colony
- A reality TV show that explores how real people dropped into an apocalyptic setting might survive, defend themselves, and begin to rebuild.
Movies
Some of the best movies ever produced have been set in the apocalypse. There is a lot of inspiration to be drawn from the silver screen. Here's some of my favorites.
- The Day After Tomorrow
- The daddy of all weather doomsday movies. If the world was going to end because the Earth wanted us all dead, what would that look like?
- Mad Max: Fury Road
- A gratifying mix of ingenious apocalyptic engineering, violence, and the grit of survival meet on the Fury Road. When a lot of us think about what we want our Bunker Radio game to look like, it's that Mad Max feel.
- 28 Days Later
- One of the most terrifying and realistic zombie movies ever produced. The desolation, utter chaos, and unpredictable nature of a destabilized society are fully realized in this film.
- War for the Planet of the Apes
- A brilliant conclusion to the franchise, this movie explores just how bad things could get for humanity when faced with a strong, intelligent, and desperate opposing force.
Games
Obviously the best game to experience the end of the world as we know it is Bunker Radio 😂. But what about video games? Some of my favorite depictions of the apocalypse have been video games. Take a look at some old favorites.
- Far Cry 5
- In the beautiful wilds of North America, you survive while being hunted by a murderous cult.
- Just Cause 3
- You are tasked with single-handedly taking down an authoritative dictator. It's one part 1984, 10 parts a wild shoot-em-up romp and I can't get enough.
- Stray
- You are a cat having kitty adventures in a robo-post-apocalypse.
- Days Gone
- Survive in a beautiful zombie apocalypse. Take risks you probably shouldn't.
- The Division 2
- A political apocalypse that results in all-out war with anarchists makes for a pretty brutal tactical apocalypse FPS.
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobl
- This one is a bit complicated to explain. But it's in Chernobl, and to call it a first person shooter would do it a huge injustice.
- Fallout 4
- The ultimate nuclear fallout post-apocalypse survival game.
- Bioshock I/II/Infinite
- A mind-bending steampunk apocalypse built in impossible cities, constructed by madmen who are greedy for power.
Books
Here are some of the best practical books to prepare you for the apocalypse. After all, there's no internet in most apocalypse scenarios.
- How to Survive The End of the World As We Know It
- An all-in-one explanation of the various considerations you might make in attempting to prepare yourself for the end of days.
- Where There Is No Doctor
- An excellent guide for laymen in medical care when a professional may not be available.
- Where There Is No Dentist
- A followup guide on dentistry when there are no dentists to be found.
- Left of Bang
- A book on the recognition of threats and violence before they happen. Extraordinarily for laymen and tactical athletes alike.
