Progress Update: V1.14 (Recipes and Crafts) Now Available for Download!
Blacksmithing |
Version 1.14 is now available for review! There are sooo many changes and updates, new content added to the game, it's going to be hard to focus on any one aspect. I'll list all the main updates below.
The main, biggest task I had in v1.14 is the addition of the Recipes and Crafts section. I struggled a bit to find a good balance between gritty realism in recipes, and simplicity for gameplay's sake.
Like part of me wants to specify measurments for each ingredient, literally come up with a whole cookbook. But the gameplay designer in me realizes that we need to simplify ingredients into arbitrary units. So recipes look more like "1 lb. meat, 1 can vegetables, spices" etc. Each of those is a standard unit used in the game. This all becomes more obvious when it comes to the very robust crafting system we have in place. There are so many crafting possibilities in the game, some players may want to do nothing but build weapons, armor, houses, their base. And that is totally OK! A dismantling and repair system will be added to the crafting section at a later date.
Here are all the crafts you can do in Bunker Radio right now:
- Cooking
- Includes Baking
- Woodworking

That's a lot of crafts. I also added farming and animal husbandry. Right now, for v1.15 (not yet available), I am working on our Hunting and Fishing system, which is turning out to be far more intense that I previously believed it would be, but also far more fun that it has any right to be XD.
Aside from these changes, I of course have also been working on streamlining certain aspects of the ruleset, setting deadlines for the finished product and slowly moving towards an official launch.
Here are some of the other changes I've made:
- All the changes listed in the previous post - to do with the Prepping and Base building aspects of the game.
- Modified many, many Techniques to work with the new game systems I've designed (like the crafting listed above, with more changes planned.
- Some minor tweaks to the character sheet.
- Built a robust roadmap for the path to completion of the project.
- Research on actually publishing this project.
- Planned some alternative, optional rules for the future, including:
- A more granular combat system (the current system is very nearly one die roll to complete the entire combat encounter).
A "Norm-core" game mode, in which the player characters are stronger, more like Heroic PC's of traditional fantasy roleplaying games.Beekeeping - Removal of a skill that are turning out to not be very useful
- Force - It was meant to be a brute strength skill that really just ends up being redundant to the Athletics skill
- Addition of an Animal Handling skill
- Probably a good idea in the post-apocalypse.
- A couple proposed technique additions/changes that will be discussed later.
There's a lot more work to do, so I'm going to get back at it!
